Born in the small Malaysian town of Klang to educator parents, Dr. Ara was nurtured to cultivate a strong sense of curiosity and problem-solving skills, while also embodying perseverance, courage, and ambition.
At 18, he received a merit scholarship to study medicine at Liverpool University. After obtaining his medical degree, he completed an internship as well as multi-year training programs in surgery and Emergency Medicine.
An avid athlete and tennis player, Dr. Ara took up golf while studying sports medicine. This serendipitous overlap led him to deeply explore swing mechanics and common golf injuries, allowing him to apply his sports medicine knowledge to the sport.
Since his debut on the Golf Channel in 2014, where he explained Tiger Woods’ back surgery to golf fans, Dr. Ara has appeared and provided commentary and analysis across various media platforms including CNN, BBC, NBC Golf Channel, CBS Sports, Golf Digest, and USA Today.
